About us

Hi, my name is Eerainuh, and nowadays I am mostly New Zealand based, in case you wonder. My helpers in the kitchen are called Jazz and Billy (see pics below), they are invaluable to my cooking as they always keep an eye on things and are extremely supportive. Tommie was a great help for 15.5 years but he passed away in October 2014. I miss him dearly.

Cooking has always been a hobby for me, and many moons ago I started to research and read lots and lots about how our food is processed – or not – and ends up on our plates. Everything I read made me turn to organic food very quickly! I also have health issues (main one being heart disease) and I feel it paramount to support my body with healthy food. This is not to say that everything I cook couldn’t be done healthier or better – sometimes we crave comfort foods, and I cook those too. I think it’s about balancing, and always, on a daily basis, putting things into your body that it truly needs.

Only 3.5 years ago I went vegan after doing research, I guess the same way most ethical vegans become vegan. Once you know, y0u can’t but step away from the cruelty. I don’t want any involvement in this arrogance of human mankind – nor do Billy and Jazz, I know because they told me so 😉 Tommie always was a gentle little man, he would not approve of the cruelty mankind afflicts on non human animals. The funny thing that happened is that I started to enjoy cooking even more, so I’d say that somewhere in my subconsciousness there was something nagging me about using animal products.

This recipe website is a way for myself to do something positive in this world, to share vegan, healthy and fun recipes. It is also a way to find fulfillment, by being creative within the limitations of my body and work with limited energy. One has to eat anyway, so I make the most out of it.  I do try to cook from scratch as much as possible, but at the same time, I don’t cook complicated stuff. Every single recipe you find here was consumed by me, my family or friends. I do my own photography, which means we sometimes end up with a slightly cold meal, but everybody is always very forgiving. I have some dear friends who are very supportive of my cooking, and of course they therefore are an even bigger joy to cook for!

So no complicated things and no health pretensions or claims. These recipes are the food I cook and we eat, and I’m just sharing them. I am a chef/cook by heart, not by profession. I do share some health or vegan tidbits here and there but that is all regarding the recipes. I hope my recipes bring you new ideas and inspiration to tweak them. Do feel free to comment or to ask me anything!
